About Rooted in Rest

Kate Burns
Certified Pediatric Sleep Coach
Hey there, I’m Kate!
So happy you're here! Let me tell you, I’ve lived through those nights that feel endless, naps that last five minutes, and mornings that come way too early. I’ve been the parent pacing the hallway, wondering if sleep will ever return, and I’ve been the one questioning every choice I make, thinking, Am I doing this right?
I started Rooted in Rest because I wanted to help families feel a little less alone in those moments. Sleep doesn’t have to feel like a battle, and with the right support, it can actually feel doable—even gentle & restful. That's what I'm after here at Rooted in Rest—rest for the whole family but achieving it in a way that works for your unique family.
Beyond my personal experience, I bring a professional background in nursing and a deep passion for supporting families. Over the years, I’ve seen firsthand how overwhelming sleep struggles can feel—and how transformative it is when parents feel supported with clear, realistic guidance. I've worked as a Labor & Delivery nurse as well as in Pediatrics over my years of being a nurse. Those experiences gave me a unique perspective—not only on newborns and children, but also on the parents who love them. I had the privilege of walking alongside families in some of the most tender and challenging moments, and that continues to shape the way I support parents today.
But my most important experience is with the sleep challenges I faced when my daughter was born . She's now 15 months and sleeping like a champ (hallelujah!)—but getting here was not easy. We tried so many methods, read all the advice, and second-guessed ourselves a hundred times. There were nights I felt completely defeated and mornings I wondered how I was going to make it through the day. That season taught me more than anything else: what it feels like to be in the thick of it, how confusing all the advice can be, and how much difference it makes to have someone walk alongside you with a plan that feels doable.
That’s why I started Rooted in Rest. My personal journey as a mom—paired with my nursing background—all inspires the way I support families today. My approach is gentle, flexible, and tailored to each unique child and parent. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, I help you find rhythms and strategies that work for your family.
I know firsthand how exhausting sleep struggles can be—but I also know the joy and relief that come when things finally click. And that’s what I want for you, too.
My Philosophy
Every baby—and every family—is different. There’s no one-size-fits-all plan, no perfect formula. That’s why I focus on personalized, realistic guidance that fits your child, your life, and your family’s rhythm. I want you to feel confident in your decisions and supported in the process—not like you’re following a script, but like you have a partner cheering you on.
I’ve celebrated the small wins—naps that actually last, nights that stretch a little longer, parents breathing a sigh of relief. And I want that for you too. Because when sleep starts to fall into place, the difference isn’t just in your baby—it’s in you too. You get your energy back. Your confidence grows. Life just feels…a little lighter.
So whether you’re navigating newborn sleep, toddler transitions, or everything in between, I’m here to walk alongside you. Not to judge, not to rush, not to tell you how it should be—but to guide, support, and encourage you every step of the way. Together, we can bring rest, calm, and confidence back to your home.
